Field Hockey League

This is an instructional program. Participants will learn different skills related to field hockey such as dribbling, passing, offensive & defensive moves and shooting through practices and games.

Practices are Wednesday nights from 6pm - dark (usually between 7:00pm - 7:30pm), plus one Saturday practice from 10am - noon. Tournaments begin the second Saturday of the season and run 9am - 1pm. Tournaments are local to Broome & Tioga County. Teams are divided based on grades.

Ages:  K - 6th grades

Location: Vestal High School Baseball Field, Woodlawn Dr.

Cost: $40.00 residents, $50.00 non-residents

Add $35.00 - if you want a field hockey stick
Add $35.00 - if you want goggles (optional - not required)

Registration Options:

Goggles: Goggles are optional. If you would like to order goggles through us, then add $35.00 to the program fee or you can get them on your own. One size fits all.

Stick size: The stick is a beginner's level stick. List the stick length and grade level (going into the fall) on the registration form. Deadline for stick orders is Monday, August 28.

Stick length goes by girls' height:
Under 4'2" - 28" stick
4'2" to 4'4" - 30" stick
4'5" to 4'7" - 32" stick
4'8" to 4'10" - 33" stick
4'10" to 5'0" - 34" stick
5'1" to 5'4" - 35" stick
5'5" to 5'6" - 36" stick
5'7" to 5'8" - 37" stick
5'9" & up  - 38" stick

Shirt size: The tournaments are played into October, so you may want to consider a t-shirt size large enough to wear over a sweatshirt.

Volunteer coaches are needed to run this league. Coaches must be fun-loving and have a good sense of humor. All coaches must pass a background check. A waiver must be signed for a background check before you are allowed to coach. You can download the form here and return it to the Recreation Department by mail at 516 Front St, Vestal or drop it off at the office. Previous field hockey knowledge is not necessary but is helpful. Since all participants meet together, you'll always have experience to draw upon. There is no cost to be a coach and we provide a free T-shirt and loaner stick. To register as a volunteer coach fill out a registration form from the menu on the left. Include your T-shirt size. basketballFree Teen Basketball  
Teen Basketball is open to boys and girls on Mondays and Wednesdays for supervised skills and "pick up" games of basketball. The program runs from September 11 - November 8 for 7th - 12th grades. Play is from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm at the Vestal High School gym. The program is free and registration is not required. No program on September 27th, October 16th and when schools are closed for holidays.

Vestal Youth Basketball Organization bball
NEW! 6 -7 Year Old Division
Game dates: January 6 - February 24
(No games on January 13 & February 17) 

The Town of Vestal Recreation Department is sponsoring a youth recreational basketball league -  VESTAL YOUTH BASKETBALL ORGANIZATION. VYBO is a comprehensive basketball program open to boys and girls ages 6-11 years. Every player,  regardless of ability, has an opportunity to play and enjoy the game. Participants will learn a new skill each week, as well as play games.

Please note: Games are played on Saturdays. There is a possibility that a game could be played on Sunday due to the High School sports schedules. 
NEW: 6 - 7 year old games are played at Clayton Avenue Elementary Gym.
All other games are played at Vestal High School Main Gym. (There may be games played at an alternate school depending on VHS sports schedule).

All 8 - 11 teams practice once a week - starting the week of January 2 at Glenwood Elementary School.  No weekly practice for the 6 - 7 division. Team information will be mailed out mid-late December.

Volunteer Coaches are needed to help run this program. Our goal is to have two coaches per team in a co-coaching situation. This league has a director running the weekly skills and games. Coaching requirements include: enjoys working with children, having fun, interest in basketball,  one weekly practice for 8-11 year old teams, and a weekly game. Please join us for another fun-filled season & register online at vestalny.myrec.com or by filling out a form from the link on the left and mail it to the Rec. Dept. There is no cost to be a coach and we provide a free coach’s T-shirt. There is one important coaches meeting in December.

T-Ball League - Thursdays 2024

This is a learning and recreational league. Participants will use T-stands to hit from and a soft rubber ball. All games are weather dependent and will be cancelled due to rain or wet conditions with no makeups. There are no practices. 

Ages: 4 & 5 years - girls and boys 

Dates: Thursdays TBA

Location:  Arnold Park, Andrews Rd. 

Time: Thursdays - 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM all games

Cost: $35.00 Residents, $45.00 Non-Residents

The first week we will meet for pictures only. Come meet your coaches and teammates and get your team t-shirt at the Old Central Jr. High gym on Main St. You will be mailed your team information and your picture time. On the last night, there will be a pizza party under shelter #1.
