Construction begins on Rte. 17 today. Both entrances to 17 East from Rte. 26 will be closed.
Construction continues on the Main Street Bridge and on Vestal Pkwy West near Town Hall Road.
Please plan ahead and leave extra time for delays and detours. If possible, please take alternate routes.
Please drive slowly and carefully through the construction areas. The workers depend on you for their safety.

Trial Program: Dogs Allowed in Stair Park and Fuller Hollow Park

Last winter, the Town of Vestal began a trial program, allowing dogs in Middendorf Park. Prior to that, dogs were only allowed in Jones Park and on the Rail Trail. Our DCO Andrea Husband, Parks Supervisor Jeremiah Barnard, Highway Superintendent Donnie Younker, Police Chief Vince Stavola, and all our Police Officers worked together, ready to deal with any issues that arose, but there were none. Quite the opposite occurred. The residents encouraged each other to comply with the regulations. Small signs popped up, strategically placed around the park, cheerily reminding people to leash and pick up after their dog. There weren’t any complaints, no inappropriate dog waste was found, and no enforcement was required. Since the trial program was so successful, dogs are now allowed in Middendorf Park permanently. Thank you to all our residents who made the pilot program in Middendorf Park so successful!
Since the program allowing dogs in Middendorf Park was successful, we will now begin another trial program. Beginning immediately, dogs are allowed in Stair Park and Fuller Hollow Park. Our DCO Andrea Husband, Parks Supervisor Jeremiah Barnard, Highway Superintendent Donnie Younker, Police Chief Vince Stavola, and all our Police Officers will once again work together to ensure that everyone follows the rules.
Please pay attention to the signs and follow the rules:
1) All dogs must be leashed and picked up after.
2) No dogs allowed in the playground.
3) No dogs allowed near the Playground Recreation Program (when it is in session).
Fines and penalties for non-compliance will be enforced.
Please be respectful of others and follow the rules, so that this trial program can be successful also!

Alert: Glenwood Road Planned Closure
Tomorrow (Friday, 6/12), Glenwood Road northbound will be closed at the Glenwood Road/Main Street intersection from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The road will be fully open in the evening. A signed detour will be in place. Glenwood Road will be open in the southbound direction.
Fun Events for Everyone in Vestal, Beginning Tonight, Thursday, June 4th!
The Town of Vestal invites all our residents to our fun (free) events, beginning tonight, Thursday, June 4th! Join us for the fun and celebration! There will be a celebration tonight (at the Vestal Museum), and a senior dance tomorrow (in the Junior High School gym) in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vestal Museum. Vestal Festival will be held on Saturday on Front Street. All events are FREE (except the nominal fee for the dinner at the senior dance).
Tonight, Thursday, June 4th, is a celebration of the Vestal Museum's 50th Anniversary! This fun event will be held at the Vestal Museum and has been organized by our Museum Director, Melissa Restuccia, and the Vestal Historical Society. There will be music, lawn games, snacks, a full-sized trolley, historical pieces, and the unveiling of a community quilt. This event is free! Schedule as follows:
5-5:30 pm: Unveiling of the Community Quilt
5:30 - 6:00 pm: Light Refreshments
6:00 - 8:00 pm: Live Entertainment playing on the Platform/Porch (Blue Grass Fiddlers)
Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the music!
Tomorrow, Friday, June 5th, there will be a Decades Dance (for seniors) at the Central Junior High School gym in honor of the Vestal Museum's 50th Anniversary. The event has been organized by the Vestal Museum and the Vestal Senior Center. Meals will be provided by the Office of Aging, but the deadline to order has passed. Dinner will be at 4:30, and there will be music from 5 - 7 pm. Entrance to the event is FREE, and some snacks will be available.
Saturday, June 6th, the Vestal Festival will be held on Front Street from 10 am - 3 pm. There will be lots of vendors, food trucks, and free activities for kids. This event was organized by the Vestal Recreation Department, and entrance is FREE!

In preparation of the Main Street bridge replacement project, NYSEG will begin replacing the gas line on May 26, 2026.
The work will be on Main Street between S. Circle Drive and Glenwood Road. During construction activities, traffic will be reduced to a single lane. It is anticipated that the gas line work will be completed within 3 to 4 weeks. There will be traffic delays. Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes.

The NYS Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has completed its preliminary investigation of the police-involved shooting that occurred in Vestal on February 25, 2026, and will be releasing the bodycam footage of the incident.
Vestal Police Chief Vincent Stavola is now permitted to issue a statement providing the facts of the incident. CLICK HERE (or go to the News section of the Town of Vestal website) to read the statement.

Sheedy Road between Bunn Hill Road and NYS Route 26: traffic will be limited to one lane beginning, Tuesday, April 28th through at least Friday, May 8th from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Senior Exemption Renewal Deadline - April 15th
Senior Exemptions must be renewed each year. If you have not submitted the paperwork yet this year, please submit soon. The deadline is Wednesday, April 15th. You must submit your 2024 tax return or Social Security statement as proof of income. . If you are aware of anyone that may have difficulty renewing their exemption, please let us know. We don't want anyone to lose the exemption that they are entitled to. Board of Assessment Review - Volunteers Needed.
The Vestal Board of Assessment Review is an independent entity tasked with ensuring the fair review of assessments. They review individual assessments when a property owner believes that their assessment is inaccurate, and they have the power to change inaccurate assessments. There are positions available on the Board, and positions available as alternates. Each Board member is appointed by the Town Board, serves for a five year term, and must be available for a month (beginning at the end of the May) each year to hear cases and deliberate on rulings. Although training is provided, some qualifications are needed in order to understand the valuation of property.

If you have experience with property valuation, please consider volunteering for the Board so that we can ensure the fair valuation of property for every resident.
Reminder! The deadline for new applications for the Senior Property Tax Exemption is March 1st of every year.
The Senior Exemption is a partial property tax exemption for low income senior citizens. Last year the Vestal Town Board modified the income requirements and more low income seniors now qualify for the exemption. Please contact the Vestal Assessor's Office tomorrow, Friday February 27th, if you believe that you may qualify for an exemption. You may you may call the Assessor's Office at (607) 754-3314 or visit them at 516 Front St Vestal, NY 13850. If you qualify for the exemption, please don't miss the application deadline!

The weather is expected to be brutally cold the entire weekend. The low temperatures, accompanied by strong winds, are very dangerous. Despite the best efforts of our Highway personnel, the roads are slippery and/or icy, due to the extreme temperatures. Frostbite will set in quickly if you are exposed to the cold, no matter how warmly you are dressed. Please stay indoors and do not drive unless absolutely necessary.
Thank you to all our town personnel from our Highway, Parks , and Water departments who are trying to make the roads safer! Thank you to all our emergency personnel (police and volunteer fire and EMS) who are ready to assist our residents. Please do not call them unless you really need them. The weather is dangerous for them as well.
